Notes:
Sammie Averill was the medalist by two shots today. This was the first time in her career that she has been the medalist in an invitational. What made this particularly impressive was the fact that the field was very strong and the golf course was extremely difficult (long yardage and difficult greens).

The Bears capped off a busy week (4 matches) by edging Battle Creek Lakeview by 1 shot to win their second invitational of the week. In the process St. Joe broke their 18-hole school record by 5 shots, shooting a 358. It was a total team effort, as all 4 counting scores were between 86 and 92. This also marked the first time in school history that St. Joe has beaten a BC Lakeview girls golf team. Hopefully it won't be the last!

The St. Joseph Bears opened the 2011 golf season in respectable fashion, edging out future Regional challengers Plainwell, Marshall, and Vicksburg on there way to a 5th place finish. While 384 was a decent start to the season, it may turn out to be one of the highest scores of the season if all goes well in 2011.

St. Joe is Going to State!!!!- 1st Time in School History

For the first time in the 20-year history of girls golf, St. Joseph is going to the State Finals. St. Joseph shot a 382, finishing 3rd behind Marshall (372) and Coldwater (381), to advance to the State Finals at Michigan State. St. Joe edged out Vicksburg for the 3rd spot by 8 shots. The Finals are next Friday and Saturday at 10 am.

Following their worst round of the season two days earlier, the St. Joe golf team bounced back with the best 18 hole round in school history. The two day turnaround featured a 62 shot drop in the team score from Thursday's round! The Bears score of 371 was good enough for a 3rd place finish on the day, beating 4th ranked Marshall and 10th ranked Coldwater.

For the first time in at least 10 years, St. Joseph won the West Division title. They swept all 5 matches and won by an average of 39 shots. In addition, St. Joseph had 5 of the 8 all-division selections, and also one honorable mention. Overall, it was a very successful season in the West Division.
